Travel in Post-Pandemic
Covid-19, Travel Trends

What will Travel in Post-Pandemic times look like?

After the impact of Covid-19, the world has changed dramatically and so have we. Throughout this pandemic, the natural environment has shown some significant changes that travellers are aware of and will continue to keep in mind when deciding on planning a trip in post-pandemic times.

The following are some of the upcoming travel trends that industry experts, including the ones participating in this year’s ITB Travel Trade Show, consider will be demanded by tourists as soon as Covid-19 allows.

1. Undertourism vs. Overtourism

Less is more. Long gone are the days where travelling meant seeing as much as possible in the least amount of time. Travellers are now seeking uncrowded and low risk destinations, where they can appreciate spending time in nature or in wide open spaces. Activities such as camping, hiking, fishing or bird-watching are all perfect examples for solo travellers or small groups who seek peace and quietness.

Additionally, when thinking about nature and/or the environment, the first thing that comes to mind is sustainability which, according to National Geographic, will be one of the industry driving forces after the pandemic, where sustainable tourism means empowering locals and protecting the environment.

In that sense, nature will be one of the key travel trends of the year, also stated by Euronews and Forbes, as tourists are becoming more conscious and attracted to visiting eco-friendly destinations, where supporting local causes or giving back to local communities is as important as leaving a positive footprint behind.

2. Safety vs. Risk

Vaccines and testing are the way forward, states CNN Travel in a recent article. These ongoing procedures together with the development of the IATA Travel Pass Initiative are slowly increasing the desire of travellers to explore the world again as long as safe travel journeys are guaranteed.

In that sense, domestic travelling seems to be one of the safest options, at least in the short term, since safety measures around social distancing and mask wearing are already part of the travellers daily routine.

For this reason, we, at Nezasa, already support self-drives as a secure way to travel locally and at one’s own pace, since it allows people to discover their own country in a comfortable and protected way, with the option of visiting multiple locations in one single trip, while helping the local economy to slowly recover.

3. Quality vs Quantity

Taking into account all of the above, travelling in post-pandemic times is going to be all about prioritising quality over quantity, as well as being mindful of actions and decisions taken in order to recover from an already stressful year, 2020.

Subsequently, travellers will be eager to spend longer periods of time in destination, since the current working environment allows them to work remotely plus it gives them the opportunity to explore further and have a better appreciation for the local culture and its traditions, making the overall travel experience much more unique and complete.

But, that’s not all! Self-care and wellness proposals will also be gaining momentum as destinations are able to offer travellers healthy, relaxing programs along with a variety of outdoor, pleasant activities to recover, physically and mentally, from an exhausting year.

Summarizing, the growing interest for natural destinations, safety conditions and quality time spending will be in high demand as soon as the travel industry takes off again, giving destinations the opportunity to adapt to the new requirements in order to allow travellers to book trips again.

At Nezasa, we believe in the future of travel, that is why we continue to thrive at what we do, by improving our travel technology and in finding the best solutions for our B2B travel customers.
